Sea view rooms in Puri, and what the view really is

Eight room categories, six with a sea view, three with a private balcony. The difference between "sea view" and "sea facing" is the most useful thing to know before you book in Puri.

The distinction that matters

Sea view, sea facing, ocean view — three different claims

Listings in Puri use these three phrases loosely and often interchangeably. They are not the same thing and they are not priced the same. This is the honest version.

Front sea-facing

The window or balcony looks directly out at the sand and the Bay of Bengal. Three categories qualify: the Platinum Double (217 sq. ft., sleeps 3), the Platinum Twin Bed (251 sq. ft., sleeps 3) and the Deluxe Ground Floor (Sea-View) (217 sq. ft., sleeps 3). All three have somewhere to sit and look out.

Side sea view

The water is visible but at an angle, usually through a narrower opening. Four categories qualify: the Premium Double (250 sq. ft.), the Platinum 4 Bed and Premium 4 Bed (both 355 sq. ft., sleeping 5) and the Suite (355 sq. ft.). The Premium Double's side view is from select windows, so confirm the specific room when you book.

No sea view

The Deluxe Ground Floor (Non-view) is 250 sq. ft. on the quiet side of the building. It is the largest of the ground-floor rooms and suits anyone who wants space and quiet rather than the water.

"Ocean view" is a marketing flourish. The Bay of Bengal is an ocean, so the phrase is not wrong — but on this coast it almost always means one of the two categories above. Judge a room by whether the view is front or side, not by whether someone has written "ocean" in the description.

Getting the most from it

Sea-facing rooms, used well

Open the balcony early

The light on this coast is at its best before nine. A front sea-facing room with a balcony is worth getting up for.

Watch the sunset from the room

The west-facing water is the reason people book these rooms. You do not need to go anywhere to see it.

Ask for a high floor

Upper-floor sea-facing rooms look over the sand rather than across the beach road at it.

Do not expect silence

The northern stretch is calmer than the main beach, but the surf here is powerful and the sea is loud.

Getting it right

How to book the view you want

Name the category, not the view

Say "Platinum Double, front sea-facing" rather than "a room with a sea view". It removes the ambiguity entirely.

Ask about the specific room

The Premium Double has side views from select windows. Ask which rooms are available on your dates.

Check the balcony

Three categories have a private balcony. If the balcony matters, say so rather than assuming it.

Confirm the rate for your dates

Call +91 33 4002 1200 with your dates. Sea-facing categories differ in rate and move with season.
