Temples, shoreline, a saltwater lake and craft villages — the sights that make Puri more than a beach town, with honest visitor notes for each.
One of the four holiest Hindu pilgrimage sites — daily rituals, a living temple, and the heart of Rath Yatra.
A 13th-century chariot of stone — wheels, pillars and carvings of Hindu mythology.
Golden sand, fishing boats at dawn and a promenade that ends at the surf.
Asia's largest saltwater lake — islands, birdlife and Irrawaddy dolphins.
Pattachitra painters at work in a village that has practised the art since the 5th century AD tradition.
87 sq. km of casuarina forest, dunes and lagoons between Puri and Konark.
Appliqué work — the bright canopies and lanterns of Odisha's craft highway.
A wide, quiet shoreline a short drive from the Sun Temple.
Planning the days? Our 3-day Puri itinerary sequences these sights sensibly — and the travel guide hub covers seasons and transport.
How to use this
Puri is unusual: the town itself holds one of India's great temples, and within an hour there is a World Heritage Site, Asia's largest brackish lagoon and a village where every house is an artist's studio. This page groups them by travel time so you can plan a day rather than a wish list.

Plan by distance
| Within the town | Half-day | Full day |
|---|---|---|
| Jagannath Temple Gundicha Temple Puri Beach |
Raghurajpur Pipili Chandrabhaga Beach |
Konark Sun Temple Chilka Lake Balukhand Sanctuary |
Almost nothing here is a standalone trip. Konark, Chandrabhaga, Raghurajpur and Balukhand all sit on the same coastal road, so grouping them into one day is far better than four separate outings.
Getting around
Cheapest for short hops into town and up to the temple. Agree the fare before you set off.
Better for airport runs and day trips. Availability thins out in the evening, so book ahead.
A car with a driver, arranged for you. The simplest option for a day where you want to stop often — ask at the front desk.
How to use this page
Shree Jagannath Temple is the reason most people come, and it rewards an unhurried morning more than a rushed checklist.
The Konark–Chandrabhaga loop is one outing; Raghurajpur and Pipili make the second. Both start and end comfortably from the hotel.
Chilika takes a full day and gives back dolphins, birds and open water — worth it, if the weather plays along.
