The detail
The case, honestly assessed
Puri weddings work for a specific reason: there is a temple, a coastline, and a set of hotels that can take a large family group within twenty minutes of each other. That combination is rare in India. It is also true that the decision has practical consequences worth thinking through before you book anything.
What makes it work
Families who come from Bengal or Odisha usually want the Jagannath Temple on the itinerary. Almost nobody wants it only as an excursion. Puri gives you both, and the beach is a genuine draw for guests who did not come for a temple at all — which is most of them.
The season is not negotiable
November to February is the window. It is dry, cooler, and the sea is calmer. December and January are the most popular and therefore the hardest to book. June and July are the worst choice for two reasons: Rath Yatra makes Puri exceptionally difficult, and the monsoon can disrupt any outdoor plan.
The guests will want to see the temple
Plan for it. If a wedding falls on a day that would otherwise be free, guests will fill it. Build the temple visit into the schedule rather than hoping it does not happen — it is a much better day when it is planned, with transport arranged and the right clothing mentioned in advance.
Be honest about monsoon risk. Any outdoor ceremony between June and September carries a real chance of being rained off, and we will not pretend otherwise. Between November and February the risk is low. If your dates are fixed and fall in the monsoon, plan the ceremony indoors and treat any outdoor element as a bonus.
