Chilika Lake
A long day but a genuinely different landscape — Asia's largest brackish lagoon, dolphins and birds. Read the guide.
Puri rewards early mornings and unhurried evenings. This itinerary is built around both — temple first, sea second, everything else in between.

The shape of the trip
Three days is the sweet spot for Puri: long enough for the temple, the beach and the Konark loop without rushing, short enough to keep the holiday a holiday. The sequence below front-loads the sights that need early starts and leaves the afternoons loose — because in Puri, the afternoon heat decides your schedule whether you like it or not.
Check in, drop the bags, and eat a proper lunch at the multi-cuisine restaurant — you'll want the fuel. Late afternoon, when the stone stops radiating, head into town for the Shree Jagannath Temple: an evening darshan, the bazaar lanes around it, and dinner back in town or at the hotel. First nights in Puri should end early; the beach will call at dawn.
The signature day. Leave by 8 a.m. along the Marine Drive — the road itself is half the pleasure, running between the Bay of Bengal and the Balukhand Wildlife Sanctuary. Spend the morning at the Konark Sun Temple with a guide, break for lunch, and take Chandrabhaga Beach on the return. Back at the hotel, the Sundowner Cafe terrace has earned its name by then.
A slow start: the beach before breakfast is the single best hour in Puri. After brunch, drive to Raghurajpur Artist Village for the Pattachitra studios, returning via Pipili if you're flying out with luggage space to spare. Fit in one more swim, one more terrace drink, and the trip closes the way it should — to the sound of the water.
Add Chilka Lake as a full-day trip — the lake guide explains the boat logistics, or simply repeat Day 3's beach morning — guests rarely regret the repeat.

Building the day
On this coast the morning is the whole trip: the light is best, the temperature is kindest and the crowds have not formed. Every itinerary below leans on that single fact.
Whatever you are doing, doing it early will make it better. That includes the beach.
Move indoors or into a vehicle through the middle of the day — temple, market, museum or the room.
The second window, and the one most visitors waste. Beach, bazaar or a second temple visit.
Golden hour from Sundowner, then dinner. The day should end with the view it started with.
Make it yours

Nothing scheduled. Sunrise, breakfast, a book, a second walk, the terrace. Many guests later say this was the best day of the trip.
Raghurajpur and Pipili in one unhurried morning. Our craft guide covers the workshops.
For Chilika and a rest day, four days is genuinely better than three. See rooms for a longer stay.
